Back to School with Nanny Q: Routines, Meals & Tips from Daycare to Kindergarten

✨ By Nanny Q, Your Go-To Guide from First Cry to First Day of School ✨

The back-to-school hustle is real MANE!!! especially when you’re sending your little one off to daycare, Pre-K, or kindergarten for the very first time! Whether you’re a first-time parent or a seasoned pro, getting into a solid routine can make mornings smoother, meals healthier, and transitions easier for everyone.

Here are some Nanny Q-approved tips to make the start of the school year stress-free and successful:

🧸

Daycare & Pre-K Tips

  • Practice Separations Early: Start doing short drop-offs with family or friends so your child can get used to being away from you.

  • Pack Familiar Comforts: A blanket, or family photo can ease separation anxiety.

  • Label Everything: From bottles to jackets, label it all. Trust me, daycare staff will thank you.

🍎

Kindergarten Kick-Off

  • Talk It Out: Read books about the first day of school, visit the classroom if possible, and answer all your child’s “what if” questions.

  • Establish a Goodbye Ritual: A special hug, high-five, or handshake helps make drop-offs predictable and positive.

  • Start the School Sleep Schedule Early: Shift bedtime and wake-up time gradually a month before school starts.

🍽️

Breakfast & Lunch Ideas

  • Quick & Healthy Breakfasts: Overnight oats, fruit smoothies, egg muffins, or mini pancakes are quick, fun, and filling. I have some great recipes on lemon8

  • Lunchbox Winners: Include a protein, fruit/veggie, whole grain, and something fun. Add love notes or stickers for a sweet surprise!

  • Stay Organized: Prep lunches the night before to avoid morning chaos.

🕘

Routine Reset

  • Visual Schedules Work Wonders: Use pictures and checklists to help young kids understand their daily routine.

  • Prep the Night Before: Pick out clothes, pack bags, and set out shoes so mornings run smoother.

  • Stay Consistent (But Give Grace): Consistency helps kids feel safe, but remember—it’s okay if it’s not perfect every day.

Let’s make this school year the best one yet together. 💕

Greetings,

I’m Quanella, most families know me as NannyQ, and I’m a professional nanny, doula, caregiver educator, and parent advocate with years of hands-on experience supporting families from pregnancy through early childhood.

AskNannyQ was created from real life—not textbooks. I’ve worked inside homes, daycare settings, delivery rooms, and family transitions, witnessing firsthand what parents actually need but rarely get explained. My mission is simple: to make parenting feel less overwhelming and more supported.

As a nanny and doula, I’ve helped families:

  • Prepare for newborn care and postpartum recovery.

  • Navigate childcare decisions with confidence.

  • Create safe, realistic routines for infants and toddlers.

  • Advocate for themselves in medical, daycare, and school settings.

  • Raise emotionally secure children with structure and love.

I believe childcare isn’t one-size-fits-all. Every family is different—and that’s okay. At AskNannyQ, you’ll find honest guidance, practical tools, checklists, and real-world advice designed to meet parents where they are, not where society thinks they “should” be.

I’m also the creator of the NannyQ children’s book series, written from a caregiver’s perspective to help children (and parents) navigate everyday routines, emotions, and milestones in a fun, relatable way.

Whether you’re a new parent, expecting parent, nanny, or caregiver, you’re welcome here.

I’m more than a nanny. I’m NannyQ.
And I’m here to help from a positive pregnancy test to the last day of school.
